The pursuit of
success sometimes requires a different perspective. Thankfully for
business people, that difference in perspective isn’t too hard to
find in business coaches and consultants. While both types of
counselors fill the same role, coaching and consulting employ
drastically different approaches to the problem. Deciding which one
best fits your needs and learning style can help you get the most out
of your learning experience with either one.
The difference
between business coaches and consultants lies in the degree of
involvement each uses to tackle the problem of improving their
clients’ abilities to run their businesses. On one hand, business
consultants exercise a little more involvement than business coaches.
They identify and explain the different skills and techniques that
are important to your business, they teach you how best to run your
business based on these skills, and if necessary, run the business
temporarily to show you how to implement them.
On the other
hand, business coaches are a little less involved. Instead of taking
a direct approach to tutoring you about your business, they provide
insights into the nature of your business, try to help you identify
what’s holding you back from running your business properly, and
guide you as you run it yourself. This allows business people to gain
a much deeper understanding of their business and how best to run it,
and gives them a sense of ownership of the results they achieve.
